At 5 ‘8 my dreams of becoming a professional hooper fell short. But during the 2016 season, I was able to do the next best thing. When Kobe retired, he wrote a farewell letter to the sport of basketball. We pitched the NBA on writing back.

The response ran as a full page ad in USA Today and as billboards around LA. Then, the league created a video of basketball’s biggest names reading the letter.

Years later, when Kobe passed, I turned on ESPN to see the video was being played in memoriam.

And in non-Kobe news, that same season I wrote the manifesto that launched the league’s new tagline.
